Observe the orientation of the outlet and how the wires are connected to it.If necessary, draw a basic diagram on a piece of paper showing which wire colors mount to each of the three or four screws of your outlet.Then use a screwdriver to loosen all the wire mounting screws until fully unscrewed.
Double-check your wire colors to be sure they are connected to the correct screws.
If needed, cut away the existing exposed wire and use the wire strippers to strip about 3/4 inch of new insulation away from the ends of the wires. It is the silver bar with a lot of screws in it; plus, you'll see all of the other white wires connected to it.
Loosen one of the unused screws and insert the tip of the white wire under it.
